Structural Renovations Limited has been awarded the contract to carry out the structural survey of the 3 tower blocks within the Barbican Estate in the City of London.
Lauderdale, Shakespeare and Cromwell Towers, constructed in the early to mid1970’s with exposed aggregate finished concrete, are all over 120m in height. Due to their age and height the client has decided that the condition of the concrete should be assessed.
The survey will be carried out by abseil technique and will involve hammer test, visual inspection, cover meter survey, carbonation and chloride analysis, half cell potential and resistivity testing followed by a full report and recommendations for any repair and corrosion control.

Following the successful completion of repairs and coatings to the south elevation of the tower block at Stepney Green School in the Summer of 2010 the Company was successful in being awarded the next phase of repairs to the west elevation.
Working to a tight programme within the school summer break, repairs were carried out followed by an anticarbonation coating to the concrete structure whilst the existing windows were removed and replaced.
Spandrel panels were repaired, sealed and decorated in the school colours whilst internally minor decoration was completed and handed over in good time for the September in take of students.

Structural Renovations Limited have recently completed works to the internal and external concrete elements of this grade II* listed non-denominational meeting place.
The circular 2 storey building with a conical roof is constructed primarily from board-marked reinforced concrete blocks, laid in a staggered formation with multi-coloured stained glass filling the gaps between blocks.
The works included internal cleaning of the internal concrete faces with dry –ice pellets, a method that leaves no blast media upon completion as it evaporates upon contact with the surface that is being treated - appropriate within the building where the use of grit or water blasting techniques would be disruptive and unsuitable.
The external concrete surfaces were pressure washed and a minor amount of concrete repair carried out before the application of anti-carbonation coatings and sealant.

The company has recently completed repairs to the soffits and abutments of two bridges over the Grand Union Canal in Uxbridge and Yiewsley for the London Borough of Hillingdon.
Working from barges and the towpath, concrete repairs were carried out using a Sika repair mortar that complies with BS EN ISO 1504 Part 3 Class R4 mortar. Galvashield sacrificial anodes were incorporated into repairs in areas of severe reinforcement corrosion and additional overall protection was provided by the application of Sika FerroGard 903 migrating corrosion inhibitor.
To enhance the aesthetics of the bridges they were finally given 2 coats of masonry paint.

Due to movement, the 800mm thick external masonry walls of Somerset House, London's spectacular neo-classical 18th Century building, have been reconnected Helifix Helibars, for further information on this please see our Technical Advice Sheet on Structural Masonry Repair.
In order not to adversely affect the building's external appearance of the building, the bars were resin fixed into drilled holes. In turn, the reinforcement bars were also bedded in slots cut into the perpendicular internal dividing walls, prior to making good and redecoration.
Somerset House, located between the Strand and the River Thames in the heart of London, used to house the nation's records of wills and births, etc, but now hosts open-air concerts and films, contemporary art and design exhibitions and family workshops.
